Downtown Oshawa is excited to announce the new Discover This Space Contest!
Do you have a cool business idea? Do you already have an existing business? Do you want to have your business in Downtown Oshawa? What if you could win financial support towards a storefront right in downtown for 12 months plus additional prizes?
The Downtown Oshawa BIA, in partnership with the BACD and other community sponsors, are happy to announce the Discover This Space contest which will provide entrepreneurs in Ontario a chance to win a storefront in Downtown Oshawa for 12 months! Starting Wednesday, November 6th, entrepreneurs in Ontario can begin to apply to the Downtown Oshawa BIA to be considered for the Discover This Space contest.
The contest is open to all legal residents of Ontario who are 19 years of age or older and residing in the Province of Ontario at the time of submitting an entry to Discover This Space. To apply, send your business pitch by a 1-3 minute video or by completing the application online by 5:00 pm on January 10th, 2020.
The judging panel includes Leon Efraim, Taba Merrikh, Cindy Malachowski, and Jeffery Overall from Ontario Tech. Lastly, a 2015 "Win This Space" contestant and winner, Dave Tunstead, the owner of Skye's Clothing Boutique will also be a part of the judging panel! Altogether, these judges have over 100 years of business experience!
"Win This Space" concepts have been extremely successful in other Canadian cities and boost economic development, stimulate new downtown storefront businesses, and create jobs. Discover This Space is an initiative designed to focus on business concepts where being located in a visible storefront location provides a significant competitive advantage. The focus on the competition is on entities with a retail or professional service focus.

The final prize includes, financial support towards a one-year lease within the ODBIA, along with complimentary business services will give the winner a significant boost to launch and sustain a business for the longer term.
This contest would not be possible without our incredible sponsors! Ontario Tech is donating a course for our semi-finalists. Oshawa Express, Metroland, and Snapd are generously donating advertising. Multitech Graphics and Print3 are providing the printing services. Tempine Web Development is donating their services to develop the winner’s company website. Legal services are donated by Thomas Efraim Law Offices and Koziar & Reczulski Barrister & Solicitors. Konzelmann Winery is donating their services to design the winner’s logo. Lastly, Legendary IT Solutions will be providing IT support for the winner of Discover this Space. Berry Hill and All or Nothing are providing refreshments for the announcement of the Winner.
